Cuyonon is a member of the Philippine branch of Malayo-Polynesian languages. It is spoken mainly in the Cuyo Islands, between Northen Palawan and Panay Island in the Philippines, by between 93,000 and 120,000 people. Cuyonon was used as a lingua franca in Palawan province until the late 1980s, although the number of speakers there has decreased more recently due to migratation, and to pressure from Tagalog, which is the main language used in schools.
But clearly,as of today,Cuyunon language is not used as much as before.Maybe because of the higher social living and the constant change of culture for every generation. In our generation, speaking in these kind of language may feel awkward and the speaker may feel indifference for not everyone may understand.Even Palawenos don’t use Cuyunon that much.More people are starting to drift away from this local language and use other famous languages.and I admit that I am one of those people.
That’s why I’ve researched some simple words that people who wants to learn Cuyunon could start of easily.
